Chelsea is pleased to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Livia Peng, with the Switzerland international joining the Blues from Werder Bremen on 1 July 2025.
Peng, who has agreed a four-year contract, won a league-and-cup double with FC Zurich in 2019 and 2022 and has made seven appearances for the Swiss national team.
Last season, she established herself as a first-team regular with Werder Bremen in the Frauen Bundesliga, starting all but one of their matches in 2024/25 as they achieved a seventh-place finish in the table.
Peng said: ‘It feels so good to be here. When I was 10, I dreamed of playing for Chelsea. Now, my childhood dream has come true and it's so exciting. I'm really happy to join the Chelsea family and get started.
‘It’s such a big club. Chelsea want to win titles and so do I. We’re a good match. I'm hungry to win here.’
Having risen through the ranks at FC Zurich, Peng made her debut for the Swiss club at the age of 17. That year, she also made her Women’s Champions League debut before becoming a first-team regular in 2019.
Three years later, Peng made the move to BK Hacken in Sweden and was subsequently loaned out to Levante, making five appearances in Spain. Her performances attracted the attention of Werder Bremen, who captured Peng’s signature in 2023 and immediately made her their first-choice goalkeeper.
Last month, she helped Werder Bremen reach the German Women’s Cup Final for the first time ever. Their 3-1 victory over Hamburg in the semi-final was in front of a 57,000-strong crowd, the biggest on record for a women’s game in Germany.
On the international stage, she was first called up to the Swiss senior side in 2020 and was included in the squads for the 2022 Women’s European Championships and the World Cup in 2023.
Paul Green, head of women’s football at Chelsea, said: ‘Livia is a proactive and athletic goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at her feet. Out of possession, she protects the space behind her defenders and is strong in one-v-one-situations.
‘Livia will add further competition to our already talented goalkeeping group, and we look forward to seeing her develop in a Chelsea shirt.’
Everyone at Chelsea warmly welcomes Livia to the club, and we wish her every success during her time as a Blue!
