Chelsea Foundation invited fans and Foundation participants to the club’s training ground as part of our February Community Days. There they watched both Enzo Maresca’s and Sonia Bompastor’s squads working hard.
Leo and his family enjoyed seeing the men’s team up close and personal. After a referral through the Make a Wish Foundation UK, the family travelled down especially to Cobham from Lincoln. Leo’s dad Carl said: ‘We only told him last night, so it was a big surprise! He has been in and out of hospital so we were so glad he could make it today. He and his sisters have had the best day.’
Freddie watched on with his aunt and uncle and said: ‘It’s so great being here and so close to them. It was a Christmas surprise; I was absolutely buzzing!’
Sonny took in the session with his mum, dad and brother. ‘I was so surprised,’ he declared. My mum didn't tell me until the day before we went. I couldn't sleep that night. I loved watching the players practise the attacking drills. I couldn't believe they were right in front of me!’
Aiden watched the men’s team with his mum, Sharon, who said: ‘We had the best time ever. Aiden was over the moon when he found out he was getting to watch Chelsea train and meet the players face to face. His favourite player is Cole Palmer but he was so happy to have met them all.’
Ollie attended with his mum and dad. His mum Aga said: ‘Ollie was looking forward to meeting Marc Cucurella the most, who is one of his favourite players, but everyone there was so lovely and friendly that meeting the whole team and other members of staff was a real pleasure.’
Esmael, who watched on with his family, said: ‘I am very thankful for the opportunity I had to meet the Chelsea players and take pictures. May you continue to help other kids’ dreams come true!’
Finally, a group of students were rewarded for their hard work on Chelsea Foundation’s Premier League Inspires Challenge programme with a trip to watch our women’s team train in advance of their WSL fixture against Everton.
Mr Martin, from Our Lady Immaculate School, said: ‘For these boys it’s great seeing the success that the women have had and actually being able to meet people that have got over the line and made it to elite level. We also have one of our old pupils, Katie Cox, in goal which is great, so bringing that link is fabulous.’
