Wesley Fofana has called on the Chelsea players to stick together and continue to build on our improved performance at Liverpool, as the Blues' focus turns to this weekend's FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The Blues had to come from behind at Anfield on Saturday, recovering after conceding early to secure a hard-fought draw and earn a point in the Premier League following a difficult run of results.

Our French defender was pleased to return to west London from a difficult away trip with a draw, even if he felt it could have been more, and is determined to keep pushing to rediscover our form ahead of our next game, the FA Cup final against City at Wembley.

‘It's a good result,’ said Fofana. ‘We tried to score the second goal, we created a lot of chances. I think we deserved more than a draw, but it's good because it's a big team and it's hard to go there and win.

‘So we can be proud, but we need to continue because next week we have a big game, an FA Cup final, and we will try everything to win the trophy.

‘For sure, it's not been the best moment, but we fight and we are together. We have a few more games to come, we have one final, and we need to fight for Europe because Chelsea is a big club.

'We need to give everything. We have a final next week, we try to prepare well and win the trophy.’

Our equaliser against Liverpool came 10 minutes before the half-time break: Fofana stretched out a leg towards an Enzo Fernandez free-kick as it fizzed low across the box before nestling in the bottom corner of the net.

The defender appeared to suggest it was Fernandez’s goal as they celebrated, but having seen the replays, he says he got the final touch.

‘It's my goal!’ he declared after the game. ‘I was not sure, but I saw the video and I touched the ball. I felt I did, but I was not sure and I was scared I was offside. But I saw the replay in the changing room after.

‘It's a good assist, but I was not sure because I was thinking I could be offside, so I pretended like it's Enzo’s goal, but after in the changing room I saw it's mine.’

That doesn’t take anything away from the tantalising delivery from Fernandez, though, with Fofana highlighting his team-mate’s ability from set-pieces.

'It seems like he can always do that; he's got a really good free kick. It was a good shot, but he has the ability to put the ball wherever he wants. We are happy to have a good player like this in the team.’
