Wesley Fofana felt the Blues were left to rue missed chances after we brought the year to a close with a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the Bridge.

Despite conceding an early opener, the Blues fought back almost immediately as Estevao Willian won a spot-kick, which Cole Palmer coolly converted. Enzo Fernandez then fired us into the lead with a great finish into the top corner, but we weren’t able to hold on as the Cherries levelled the game moments later.

Although we fought valiantly after the break to try and find the winner, we were unable to find the back of the net as the curtain closed on our 2025 campaign. Speaking after the game, Wes felt that we had thrown everything at the match to try and find that elusive goal, but acknowledged we didn’t quite have enough on the night to secure the result.

‘It was a tough game,’ Wes opened. ‘We tried to give everything, but we didn’t kill the game in the second half.

‘We had a few chances we didn’t score. We need to kill the game and we need to score. We had chances. It’s not only about the forward players, but it’s everyone. Sometimes it’s like this. We try everything, and we need to progress on that in future games.’

From a defence point of view, the centre-half was frustrated to concede twice early on and feels that there are lessons to take from the game as we head into the second half of the campaign.

‘We need to do better, we need to analyse and try to progress on that,’ Fofana said, speaking on the goals we conceded.

‘When you concede two, it’s a bit frustrating. When we don’t win, we miss opportunities, but we take one point from tonight. As I said before, we are only in December, and we need to progress for sure and win more games. It’s not finished, and we will continue to work.’

Heading into the New Year, Wes believes there’s still work to do with a trip to Manchester City on Sunday, but he reflects positively on 2025 with plenty of on-pitch success.

‘I think we are getting closer – we are just missing small details,’ he added.

‘It’s been an up and down year. We got into the Champions League and we won the Club World Cup, which was good. We know we need to progress more, we need to work more and keep working hard. We are all together. The next game is a big game against Manchester City, and we need to take the three points.’
