Wesley Fofana stressed the Blues must head into our decisive Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain next week with a fearless mentality and stated the players 'will give everything' in a bid to overturn the three-goal deficit.

Chelsea had impressed for large spells of Wednesday night's game and the score was 2-2 heading into the final half an hour, after Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez had twice pulled us level at the Parc des Princes.

But it ended up being a hugely disappointing night in Paris as Vitinha's finish on 74 minutes was followed by a late brace from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - his second coming in the fourth minute of injury-time - to secure PSG a 5-2 win and ensure they head to Stamford Bridge for next week's second leg with a three-goal advantage.

Fofana acknowledged the Blues were made to pay for lapses in concentration by the ruthless hosts.

‘They punished us for every mistake we made,’ Wes reflected. ‘They're a great team, and they showed it. It is a team that doesn't forgive this kind of mistake from the opponent. And tonight, we paid for it.

‘We were struggling physically [late in the game], and [the PSG substitutes] came on and they hurt us. But we could have defended it better and managed the situation better. We’ll review all of that, and we'll learn.

‘It’s up to us now to progress, to grow in maturity and to stop making these kinds of mistakes because it was fatal tonight. We have to analyse everything and do better in the return match.’

After dissecting the defeat, Wes’ full focus is on overturning the three-goal deficit, highlighting the squad's belief that anything is possible at the Bridge.

‘There is a return match, and we will be at home,’ Fofana continued. ‘We have three goals to score to at least go to extra time, and we are going to give everything. We have nothing to lose now.

‘We have three goals to score, and that is [one of] the most beautiful things about football, trying to make a comeback.

‘We just need to think about winning, about scoring goals. We just need to focus on that to win. Score three goals, and then we'll see.’
