Wesley Fofana praised the Blues' mentality after coming back from two goals down to defeat West Ham United – and the defender knows now it’s about doing the same at the Emirates come Tuesday evening.

It was another memorable night in SW6 as, for the first time in our Premier League history, the Blues won a match after trailing by two or more goals at half-time. Two down at the break, Wes was one of three changes during the interval as the defender made his way onto the pitch alongside Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro.

Fofana’s impact was almost immediate as he delivered a looping cross towards Joao Pedro who headed past the stranded away goalkeeper to kickstart our comeback. Cucurella would level the game soon after, before Enzo Fernandez fired home to secure victory in front of the Matthew Harding Lower.

For the 25-year-old, what stood out the most was the Blues’ resilience and mental fortitude to pull victory from a losing position, just as we had done in Naples three days earlier.

‘It was a good reaction, our mentality was top, it’s amazing,’ Fofana said, speaking after the game.

‘We saw it against Napoli, and we saw it against West Ham. I’m very proud of the guys. West Ham played well in the first half. We were losing 2-0, and at half-time everyone said in the changing room to forget tactics, forget everything. We needed to be more aggressive, we need to control the game, and we need to win – we’re at home. And the reaction from the team was top. It’s an amazing night.’

Wes was also pleased to provide an assist, adding: ‘My assist was good! I saw Joao Pedro in the box, and I know he can score a good header. I just crossed, and he did a good job. I put the team in a good way, but everyone gave everything, and we scored another two goals after that – we’re very proud.’

Now the squad’s attention has turned to Tuesday night when we look to overcome another deficit after suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final.

Wes knows the Blues will have to be at their best for the deciding leg, but the manner of our victories over Napoli and West Ham will only give the group more belief going into the tie at the Emirates.

‘If on Tuesday we can win like this and go to Wembley, I would take it,’ he continued. ‘Tuesday will be about winning the game against a very good team away from home. In the second leg, we will go to the Emirates wanting to win.

‘The dressing room is good because we’re winning games too – it’s always like this. We just want to continue winning more and more. The mood is very good, and after wins like the one against West Ham, we will become even more together.’
