Trevoh Chalobah made a big impression during his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season but that wasn’t the first time the defender made a huge impact when the Eagles took to the pitch in the Premier League.

Fresh from three successful loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and FC Lorient, and then playing the full 120 minutes during our UEFA Super Cup shootout win over Villarreal, Chalobah was named in Chelsea’s starting line-up for the visit of Crystal Palace in our 2021/22 Premier League opener.

The versatile defender put in an assured performance in the heart of our backline and looked right at home in blue.

Still, when he controlled a pass from the left 35 yards from goal with almost an hour gone on the clock and the scoreboard reading 2-0 to Chelsea, few could have expected what came next.

After taking a couple of touches to steady himself and move within 25 yards of the goal, the then 22-year-old struck a powerful low drive which nestled into the bottom corner. Cue pandemonium at Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah dropped to his knees and was immediately surrounded by his team-mates. The Academy graduate was visibly moved by scoring for the club he first joined as an under-9. It was quite literally a dream come true.

You can relive that unforgettable afternoon at the Bridge by watching the highlights below or you can see Chalobah mark his Premier League debut in style above.
