The matchday programme for Chelsea’s crucial Women's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge features an interview with captain Millie Bright and a look back at some of our iconic European moments.
A 4-1 defeat in the first leg of the tie has left Sonia Bompastor’s side with plenty of work to do if we are to make it into the final of the competition for only the second time in our history.
However, we previously overcame Manchester City in the competition after a first-leg defeat and Bright insists that this group of players could achieve what would be ‘one of the biggest comebacks in women’s football’.
‘We showed what we are capable of [against Man City], we did it inside 45 minutes and, to be honest with you, we could have had a lot more goals in that game,’ said the Blues skipper.
‘We’ve already demonstrated our capabilities and the level that we can play at. Anything is possible. It’s football, it’s the Champions League, and those special nights can happen.’
Bright also highlighted the impact the Stamford Bridge crowd can have on proceedings, particularly when the odds are against us.
‘If we want to turn this around, we need an electric atmosphere at the Bridge,’ she added. ‘We need it to feel, from every angle, like this is Chelsea’s turf.
‘That is so important to every player – when you’re a little bit tired, you need that push, and the fans give you that. They make it difficult for the opponents.
‘Not for one minute do I believe that Barca think this tie is over. They know the team that we are, they know there’s going to be a reaction.’
On top of that, you can hear Bompastor’s thoughts on the tie, read about some of the European magic Chelsea Women have brought the fans in years gone by, and there’s a pull-out poster of the Blues team from the first leg of this tie.
