It was consecutive Player of the Match awards for Joao Pedro, who was voted as the stand-out performer in our win over West Ham by supporters on the Chelsea Official App. Let's take a closer look at his impressive display...
It was another memorable night at the Bridge as we came back from 2-0 down to beat the Hammers 3-2, and the Brazilian was a key part of the incredible turnaround as we made it three Premier League wins in a row.
And his efforts were spotted by the Blues supporters on the Chelsea Official App with 53 per cent selecting him as our Player of the Match on Saturday night.
Impact off the bench
Turning to his bench after a disappointing first half, Liam Rosenior made a triple change at the break as Joao Pedro, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana all entered the field.
All three made contributions to the scoreline, but it was JP and Wes who combined for our first. Fofana clipped a ball towards the back post, and the forward headed it goalbound and into the net. After Cucurella had nodded us level, Joao Pedro would play the all-important squared pass to Enzo Fernandez, who bagged the winner in front of the Matthew Harding Lower.
It means the 24-year-old has contributed to goals in his last three Premier League games (3 goals, 1 assist), and the forward leads the way for goals and assists in the Blues' squad in the top-flight this season.
And even more impressively, Joao Pedro is the first Chelsea player in the Premier League to both score and assist as a substitute since Ben Chilwell against West Ham in September 2022.
In between the lines
Although this section isn't Joao Pedro-specific, we feel it's important to praise the work of others who allowed the Brazilian to thrive.
Combining with the likes of Liam Delap, Cole Palmer and the wingers in forward positions, Joao Pedro helped the Blues gain a foothold in the game during the second half. Striker Delap won four aerial duels, taking part in the joint most duels (12) for the Blues and taking the game to the opposition.
Laying the ball off to the left or the right, Delap was able to involve others in the game as he featured for only his second full 90 minutes of the Premier League season so far. It allowed Joao Pedro to occupy pockets of space in between the channels, as seen in the heat map graphic.
Popping up with four touches in the opposition's box, Joao Pedro was in the top three for that statistic, and with JP settling into his position in the middle of the park, 42 per cent of the match action took place there.
Turning the tide
As well as having played a crucial role against Hammers - the Blues becoming the first-ever Premier League side to win after trailing by two goals at half-time - Joao Pedro has been in some form recently.
After picking up back-to-back Player of the Match prizes, the Brazilian has converted in his last three league matches and is now up to fifth in the top scorer standings in the league, too.
And let's not forget his incredible brace midweek against the Italian champions, which also helped turn the tide with the Blues 2-1 down to Napoli before the break. It's certainly an impressive habit!
