We came away with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge last weekend, despite dominating possession and creating plenty of chances to score.

The Netherlands international explained the elements the side worked hard on in training in the week leading up to the clash against Man United and was proud of her teammates for turning things around so quickly.

‘I think it was a really good team performance, to be honest,’ Kaptein reflected afterwards. ‘Everyone was working really hard and kept possession. We needed to score goals today, and I think we did that very well.

‘We kept possession a little bit longer, saw where the spaces were, and then I think a lot of people were in front of the goal today, which was really good. So every time they came across or when there was an opportunity, I think everyone was ready for it.

‘We trained really hard on that one, in terms of the crosses and keeping possession. Everyone won it, really, today.’

While the team were naturally disappointed not to take all three points on the opening day of the campaign, the Blues quickly put the result to bed and sought to make the necessary improvements.

Kaptein, who created four chances and completed eight out of 12 duels attempted at the Progress With Unity Stadium, thought the finishing was the necessary finishing touch after last week’s draw.

‘I think we needed to score a lot of goals today,’ she said. ‘We were a bit in our heads when we drew 1-1 against Aston Villa and had a lot of chances. We said to each other as a team that we don't need to stress about it.

‘We had a good performance last week, to be honest. We just needed to score, and I think that's what we did today.’
