Chelsea wrote another remarkable chapter in our history yesterday as we lifted the Women’s FA Cup to complete a stunning Treble, and for midfielder Wieke Kaptein, the day was nothing short of a dream come true.

The 19-year-old Dutch international came off the bench during the second half to play a crucial role in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Wembley, recording an assist and helping us see out a commanding performance that sealed an historic season for the Blues.

Kaptein, who has just completed her first full season at the club having spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan back at Twente, has made a significant impression in her debut year, and reflecting on the full-time celebrations, the midfielder was full of emotion and awe.

‘It was unbelievable to be here and to experience this,’ she opened. ‘Millie [Bright] said that I need to enjoy moments like this, and I did it. It was crazy.

‘It’s incredible to have already won the Treble in my first year. It’s crazy. I can’t describe it in words. It is incredible, and I have goosebumps. I told Aggie that what we get to do as a job is what we always wanted to do. We love football and we showed it today on the pitch. I can’t describe it in words.’

The final at Wembley was watched by thousands of Chelsea fans who created a sea of blue in the stands, and Kaptein soaked in every moment with them.

She continued: ‘I have a lot of favourite moments from this season, but I think winning the FA Cup is one of the best I’ve had. To be here with all these people and experience this has been crazy. To be with this team is just incredible.’

Although named among the substitutes, Kaptein made an immediate impact upon entering the pitch, demonstrating her vision and ability after pouncing on a loose Man United pass before delivering towards Sandy Baltimore for her second goal, with Catarina Macario grabbing the other.

‘Of course, you want to play from the beginning, but I think everyone was mentally good today,’ she added. ‘I knew when I was needed to come on, I would give everything for the team. I had one assist so I’m really happy with that.

‘I grow from every opportunity here. Of course, it’s my first year and I’ve played a lot, so I’m really happy with that and really happy to help the team. I’ve learned a lot from this year.’

With the season now complete and the Treble secured, Wieke had a final message for supporters — one of celebration, appreciation and excitement for the future.

She said: ‘We have to enjoy what we have achieved this year because it’s been incredible. I think we need to celebrate and we will think later about what we want next year.’
