Willy Caballero expressed the delight of the Chelsea coaching staff for Estevao Willian after his first goal as a Blue helped us defeat Liverpool, and detailed the work being undertaken to ensure the Brazilian and several of his team-mates continue to improve.
Estevao joined the Blues in the summer from Brazilian club Palmeiras and has been eased into life in the spotlight at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old started in our early-season victories over West Ham United and Fulham and was also in the side away to Manchester United and at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.
There have been substitute appearances, meanwhile, against Crystal Palace, Bayern Munich, Lincoln City, Benfica and, of course, Liverpool.
Estevao was introduced with 15 minutes to play against the Reds and with the score level at 1-1. The winger's quality was evident throughout his cameo and, in the dying moments, he was able to slide home our winner and celebrate his first goal as a Chelsea player.
'He is a really good kid, very happy and always smiling,' explained Caballero, who undertook the post-match media duties after head coach Enzo Maresca was shown a second yellow card and then a red for sprinting down the touchline to celebrate our winner.
'So it’s always good and we are so happy for him because we needed it and he did it. He needed his goal, too.
Caballero then detailed the approach taken by the Blues' coaching and support staff to ensure several new members of our squad adapt to life at Stamford Bridge with ease.
He said: ‘We are doing this job with many of the players. A lot of them are young and they have to face different opportunities: playing from the start, coming off the bench, or being in the stands sometimes.
'We know this is there as coaches, and the manager is the first one who knows we need to work with the individuals to improve, not just with the ball but outside [the pitch] as well.
'Like with Estevao [against Liverpool], a player may only play a few minutes in the game, but they have to be ready to arrive there and score.
'We know a young player can suffer when they come from another country and have to settle here and play for this club. But the players here are doing a great job.'
