Kaiden Wilson reflects on a season of progress in our Academy and looks ahead to what's next for him at Chelsea after committing his future to the club with a new contract.

A successful season for Kaiden Wilson in our Under-18s ended with the defender being given the opportunity to step up to the Under-21s for some big matches during the closing stages of our Premier League 2 campaign.

The 18-year-old - who this week signed a new two-year contract with an option for a further year - is extremely pleased with his performances across the 2023/24 season and looked ahead to his future at the club, as he continues to strive for more accomplishments.

‘I am really happy with signing my new contract,’ Wilson began. ‘It is something I have been working towards since signing my first professional contract with the club, so it means a lot to extend my stay.

‘I have a huge connection with Chelsea. I have spent most of my childhood at Cobham, so it means a lot to me and my family knowing that I can continue my journey.

‘Being at the club since Under-14s, I have always looked up to the older players at the Academy and aspired to follow them. Now, to say I am one of them, and continue to be one of them, is a proud moment.’

Wilson is also pleased with his progress over the last year, highlighting some key moments along the way, such as winning the Under-18 Premier League southern title, playing at Stamford Bridge, and being involved in the Under-21s squad.

‘This season has been incredible. Being involved in most of the Under-18s games and making appearances for the Under-21s during the latter stages of the season, reflects my development and improvement across my performance.

‘It is great to see my progression throughout the Academy and being able to have the chance to display my performance on a greater stage. It is what every Academy player dreams of.

‘My stand-out moment this season was winning the southern title. Not only did we get the trophy, we also got the opportunity to play at the Bridge - an experience that I will never forget.

‘It has been my dream to play there since joining the club. It was a full circle and proud moment, hopefully there will be more appearances to come.

‘Now I have extended my contract, I am able to show what I am capable of and prove why I deserved to extend my time.

‘I am excited for my future at Chelsea, and I am sure I will continue to progress and give my all.’
