Spain have been tipped by many to win the World Cup this summer, and here we analyse Marc Cucurella’s nation in closer detail ahead of the tournament.
La Roja travel to North America as the reigning European champions after triumphing in Germany two years ago. They are now unbeaten in 33 matches, spanning qualifiers for two tournaments, Euro 2024 and friendlies. They last lost a game all the way back in March 2023.
Head coach Luis de la Fuente seamlessly stepped up from managing the Under-21s and has forged a close-knit unit. While they may not possess as many star names as the golden generation of 2008 to 2012, they look like the team to beat.

What is Spain’s World Cup history?
They lifted the World Cup for the first and to date only time in 2010, winning all four of their knockout games 1-0, including a bruising final against the Netherlands.
Prior to that success, their best finish was coming fourth in 1950, and they have struggled since triumphing in South Africa 16 years ago. They didn’t make it out of the group in 2014, and have been knocked out in the last 16 in each of the last two tournaments, Russia and Morocco their conquerors.
