We are into the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window for the Women’s Super League. Here is all the vital information as we approach the second deadline day of the week.
When does the summer transfer window close in the WSL?
Women’s Super League clubs have until 11pm UK time on Thursday 4 September to register new players from domestic transfers, or until midnight the same day for international transfers.
The WSL transfer deadline is 24 hours before the first game of the season, meaning it was originally set for Friday evening, before being moved forward due to Chelsea’s home fixture against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge doing the same.
When does the summer transfer window close in other countries?
In the women’s game, every league sets its own transfer deadline, meaning Chelsea can still complete outgoing transfers and loans after Thursday’s WSL deadline.
What are the WSL squad list rules?
Every Women’s Super League team can register a squad of up to 25 senior players over the age of 21. Of those 25, at least eight must count as homegrown, meaning they were trained by a club in England for at least three years before their 21st birthday.
Each club may also have a total of six long-term loans, defined as any loan which lasts at least until the next transfer window in January.
Who have Chelsea signed this summer?
The Blues started this transfer window by strengthening our goalkeeping department, following an injury suffered by Femke Liefting and the departure of Zecira Musovic.
In came Switzerland keeper Livia Peng from Werder Bremen to provide competition for Hannah Hampton. That was followed by Becky Spencer making her short-term loan switch from Tottenham Hotspur permanent, returning for a second spell at Chelsea.
They were followed through the door at Cobham by two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner Ellie Carpenter, the full-back reuniting with Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor after their highly successful time working together at Lyonnes.
The newest arrival so far, ahead of transfer deadline day, is young forward Mara Alber, the 19-year-old German joining from Hoffenheim after establishing herself as one of the most exciting young talents in her homeland.
