Xabi Alonso has issued an update on the fitness of Moises Caicedo and Aaron Anselmino ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Sunderland.
The Blues manager confirmed earlier today (Friday) in his pre-match press conference that he will wait until after our final session tomorrow to make a call on Caicedo, who was absent from training earlier this week.
Alonso said the Ecuadorian was feeling discomfort because of ‘little problems’ in the wake of our victory over Manchester United. He has, however, confirmed Caicedo has been out on the grass at points this week.
‘He’s doing bits and other bits,’ said Alonso, reiterating that a decision will be made on the 25-year-old's fitness after the final training session.
Alonso has positive news on Anselmino, who has been called up to the Argentina national squad alongside Emiliano Martinez and Valentin Barco.
The defender has yet to make his Chelsea debut, but there is a possibility that could change this weekend at the Stadium of Light.
‘He’s doing everything, and tomorrow [Saturday] we’ll decide, but he could be in the squad, yes,' said Alonso.
'They (Argentina) asked us and he has been training better for the last ten days, and it’s very important for him have this first call-up.'
