Xabi Alonso described Morgan Rogers as a ‘very complete modern player’ after the England international struck his fourth Chelsea goal in our 5-1 win against Bournemouth.
Signed from Aston Villa this summer, Rogers has needed little time to settle into his new surroundings at Stamford Bridge despite undertaking a truncated pre-season after helping the Three Lions finish third at this summer's World Cup.
The 24-year-old netted on his Blues debut on the opening weekend against Fulham and has also scored away at Arsenal, in our draw with Hull City and in yesterday’s win over the Cherries. Rogers has also registered four assists in his eight Chelsea appearances.
It's a testament to Rogers' fitness that despite his workload over the past year – he has played more than 70 games for club and country since the start of last season – he continues to have a decisive impact in games.
That point was made to Alonso after our latest victory, and the Blues manager responded by highlighting Rogers' durability and the strong connections he has already built at Stamford Bridge.
'No, [his form isn't a surprise] because he is young, he’s fresh, he’s strong and he’s quick – he is a very complete modern football player,' explained Alonso in his post-match press conference.
'His availability is also very high and this is very important. He looks fresh and he is enjoying [his football] because he’s a great guy and is connecting very well with his team-mates, and with everyone.
'He is having a great impact on the team and the club.'
