George McEachran has been training with Chelsea from the start of his Under-8 year and is the youngest in his age group.

Academy years

A left-footed attacking player, he played mostly in midfield or in the number 10 position while progressing through the age groups prior to a couple of years featuring on the left wing, right wing as well as a loose striker. The younger brother of Josh, who also progressed through our Academy age groups and played for the first team under Carlo Ancelotti, the younger McEachran sibling made five youth team appearances while still a schoolboy before featuring as a regular in his first season as a scholar, including appearances in all but one of our Youth Cup ties as we lifted the trophy for the sixth time in eight years. Among his half-dozen goals during the campaign, a last-minute winner in the league merit round against Manchester United at Cobham proved decisive in our push for the national title.

After returning from a short loan spell in Holland in December 2020, McEachran linked up with our development squad for the remainder of the season. Starting 14 games on his return, the midfielder was an essential part of a strong season for Andy Myers' team. As well as captaining us on occasions, he contributed four goals and two assists.

McEachran won the Under-17 World Cup with England in October 2017, before going on to win four more trophies at club level that season.

International success

After playing every game at the Under-17 European Championship finals in May 2017 as England lost the final to Spain on penalties, McEachran was a regular again at the Under-17 World Cup in India five months later, helping the team to go all the way to lift the trophy. He followed that with another positive season on the club scene, featuring mostly for the Under-18s as they won an unprecedented four trophies in 2017/18, while also debuting for our UEFA Youth League team and development squad before the end of the season.

Loan experience

The midfielder signed his first professional contract on his 17th birthday, commiting him to the club until summer 2019 - before extending his deal that year to stay at Chelsea until 2022.

In the first half of the 2019/20 season McEachran made 21 appearances for our Academy teams, scoring once in the UEFA Youth League clash against Ajax at Cobham. In January 2020 it was announced he was heading out on loan for the first time to SC Cambuur in the Dutch second division. After four outings in the Netherlands, the midfielder returned to Chelsea's development squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

In October 2020 McEachran returned to the Dutch second tier with a loan move to MVV Maastricht. He returned to Chelsea in December 2020.
