Born on 19 May 1996, Jhoao Rodriguez is a young striker from Cali in Colombia who signed for Chelsea from Deportes Quindio, a club in his homeland, having begun his career in the Colombian lower leagues.

He impressed at the 2011 South American Under-15 Championships and has continued to represent Colombia at junior international level. He participated at the prestigious Toulon Tournament in the summer of 2014.

He joined French top-flight club Bastia on loan for the first half of the 2014/15 season, before switching the loan to Vitoria Setubal in Portugal. He joined Sint-Truiden on loan in August 2015 and made two starts and 10 substitute appearances in 2015/16 for the Belgian top-flight club.

In the summer of 2016 he returned to his homeland of Colombia for a loan at Independiente Sante Fe, a top-flight club based in the Colombian capital Bogota. In January 2017 he switched loans to another Colombian side, Cortulua, where he had made five appearances by the summer.

In September 2017 he moved on loan to Tampico Madero in Mexico where he made 23 appearances and scored eight goals, before in July 2018 he moved to Tenerife in the Spanish second division for a season-long loan.
