Michael Hector signed for the Blues from Reading in September 2015 and was immediately loaned back to his former club for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

Hector, 23, from London and a boyhood Chelsea supporter, began his career in the youth team at Millwall and moved to the Reading academy in 2009.

Having continued his development and gained crucial experience of first-team football out on loan, Hector made his Reading debut in January 2014 at the age of 21.

During 2014/15, under the guidance of former Chelsea player and coach Steve Clarke, Hector established himself as a hugely important member of the Reading defence, making 49 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals. He also played the full 120 minutes of Reading's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal at Wembley.

In 2015/16 he made 35 appearances for the Berkshire club up to late April, including several as a midfielder, after which he spent the rest of the season training with Chelsea.

Hector travelled to Austria and the US with the first team squad during pre-season ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, and in August it was announced he would spend the season on loan at German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

He had the misfortune to be shown a red card in both his opening two matches there, but recovered to score a very late equaliser in his fourth outing against Hertha Berlin. He continued to play regularly for a Frankfurt side challenging in the top half of the Bundesliga and progressing in the German Cup.

Playing in different positions across a back-three defence and on a couple of occasions in defensive midfield, he made 27 appearances for the Bundesliga side as they finished in a respectable 11th position, having been in competition for the European places but missing out in the closing weeks, and were only narrowly beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal final. Hector had scored in a semi-final penalty shoot-out. Previously he scored an injury-time equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Hertha Berlin in September 2016.

On 27 July 2017, Hector joined Hull City of the Championship in a season-long loan and played 38 times in all competitions, scoring once as the Tigers finished strongly to avoid a second consecutive relegation.

A loan move to Sheffield Wednesday in August 2018 means he is spending a second successive season in the Championshop with a Yorkshire side.

Hector has represented Jamaica at international level and started all three of their matches at the 2015 Copa America.
