Guro Reiten

BIOGRAPHY

Guro Reiten was Chelsea Women’s first signing ahead of the 2019/20 season and joined from Norwegian side LSK Kvinner.

Reiten is a versatile left-footed player who is capable of playing out wide, as a No.10 or a striker. Prior to her move to London, she had always played her domestic football in Norway.

Her mother played football at the highest club level in Norway and it was she who ignited Reiten’s love of the game from a young age. When asked to describe herself as a footballer, Reiten said she likes to attack, score and create goals.

She has featured regularly for her country since Under-15s level and has been a part of the senior side since 2014. She competed in the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France with Blues defender, Maren MjeldeThroughout the tournament she netted twice and was elected as Player of the Match in their opening fixture against Nigeria – Norway finished as quarter-finalists.

Reiten was a back-to-back league winner in the Toppserien, Norway’s equivalent to the WSL. She won the league golden boot in both 2017 and 2018 and was also voted as the 2018 Toppserien Player of the Year.

After an impressive debut season with the Blues, Reiten extended her contract to keep her at the club until the summer of 2023. The attacking player appeared in 23 of the 25 matches and netted seven goals in 2019/20 which put her in the running for the Women’s Super League Player of the Year.

Last term, the Norwegian played a part in 35 matches and scored six goals, one of which was vital in the Continental Tyres League Cup quarter-final versus Manchester city which restored our lead to 3-2. The Blues were eventual winners of the tie coming out as 4-2 victors after extra-time. Reiten also notched a goal in the final of this competition versus Bristol City.
