The Swedish left-sided defender has become an integral part of Chelsea Women since joining the club at the start of the 2017 season and is our 2019/20 captain.

Magdalena Eriksson arrived at Kingsmeadow following a four-year spell at Linkopings in her home country, where she captained the club to the league title in 2016 despite only being in her early twenties.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Chelsea side since signing and in the 2018/19 season started more matches than any other player

.A calm and disciplined player who can play anywhere along the back-line, has an excellent left foot and scored one of Chelsea’s best goals of the 2018/19 season against Liverpool with a superb overhead kick.

She made her senior Sweden debut against France in 2014 and was part of the squad which reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and quarter-finals of the 2017 European Championship.

The World Cup bronze medallist played a significant role in Sweden’s squad at the tournament, playing six out of the seven matches. She also played a part in the Swedes’ success at the Rio 2016 Olympic games when they clinched silver.

Eriksson led her side out for the first time this season on Sunday 8 September at Stamford Bridge for the Blues’ opening game of the season which finished with a 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. It was a special day for the Scandinavian who also celebrated her 26th birthday.

Our club captain committed her long-term future to the club in November 2020 by signing a contract extension to keep her at the Blues until 2023.

Eriksson’s importance to the Blues was highlighted throughout the 2020/21 campaign, with the Sweden international leading by example as Chelsea clinched the WSL, the Continental League Cup and reached our first ever Champions League final.

Eriksson made 34 appearances, scoring two goals and the important role she played in the Blues defence throughout the 2020/21 campaign was further highlighted when she was named in the PFA Women’s Team of the Year.
