Biography
German international Melanie Leupolz signed for the Blues ahead of our 2020/21 campaign.
Leupolz arrived from the Frauen-Bundesliga with a wealth of experience and has proven pedigree at the highest level. In her six years at Bayern Munich she has won two league titles and captained the side for two seasons.
The midfielder has also had success on the international stage. She has been a part of the senior German national team since 2013 and has already competed at major tournaments, winning gold medals at the 2013 UEFA Women’s European Championship and at the Olympic Games in 2016.
Leupolz impressed in her debut season, playing an important role in midfield as the Blues secured the WSL and the Continental League Cup, while also reaching our first-ever Champions League final.
It was the German International’s deflected effort against her former club Bayern Munich that gave Chelsea a vital away goal in our 2020/21 Champions League semi-final.
Leupolz made 34 appearances and netted nine goals in her first season at the club.
