Chelsea TV exclusive: Patience paying off

Gary Cahill, Saturday’s match-winner, spoke to Chelsea TV shortly after the game and stressed the importance of coming away from Stoke with all three points.
The defender reacted quickest in a crowded penalty area to fire home a late goal and seal a 2-1 victory against Mark Hughes’s side, ensuring we head into the international break 10 points clear at the top of the table.
‘The manager said at half-time it was important to not get brought into a scrap with them. We just had to keep patient and try to play our football, which is what we did. We got the break and we’re just delighted to have got the win.
‘At the end of the game, and even in the dressing room, everyone was absolutely buzzing because we know how important it was. Next month is a very important month for us so we needed to put ourselves in a healthy position. Now we need to keep doing what we’ve been doing and try to get the job done.’
Cahill’s goal was his fourth in the Premier League this season and sixth in all competitions.
‘It just fell and it would have been harder to miss I think,’ he said. ‘My eyes lit up when I saw that chance and I was delighted to stick it away.
‘I was disappointed in myself that I was involved in their goal, in terms of the penalty. I haven’t seen it back, I thought it was soft at the time so when something like that goes against you, I was thinking there’s only one way I can get myself out of this, and that was the way, so I was delighted.’
