Dunn leaves Chelsea Ladies

Chelsea Ladies FC can confirm we have agreed terms for Crystal Dunn to join North Carolina Courage.

The American departs just over a year after joining the Blues from Washington Spirit, having won the WSL Spring Series with Chelsea and helped us to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League for the first time.

She began her first campaign in England playing as a striker, opening her account just 12 minutes into her first competitive appearance in a 7-0 Women’s FA Cup win over Doncaster, which was followed up with a goal on her WSL1 bow against Yeovil Town.

Although the goals dried up, a mid-season switch to left wing-back brought the best out of her as we won the Spring Series trophy at the end of a shortened league campaign, and it was from this position that she produced several big performances for Emma Hayes’ side in the first half of the current season, particularly in European competition.

As well as her displays on the pitch, the 25-year-old was a popular and bubbly member of the dressing room. We thank Crystal for her service to the club and wish her well for the future.

Dunn says: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave Chelsea. However, the opportunity to return to the USA felt like the right decision for both personal and footballing reasons at this stage of my career.

‘I would like to thank everyone at Chelsea for understanding and will be cheering on the team for the remainder of the season and beyond.

‘I want to thank Emma and the staff for all they have done for me, my team-mates who are not only top players but good friends and of course the fans for cheering me on during my year in London.

‘It has been a special time and I will always have a place in my heart for Chelsea FC.’
