Schwarzer: Players looking forward to Perth

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has revealed there is plenty of excitement in our current squad at the prospect of visiting Western Australia later this year.
It has been announced that a pre-season match at the brand new Optus Stadium against A-League side Perth Glory will take place on Monday 23 July, with the Blues bringing a strong squad for the game.
Speaking at the media conference in Perth to announce the date and ticketing arrangements for the game, Schwarzer related the reaction of the players when they learned about the visit.
‘When I first heard about the news of Chelsea making this trip out to Australia in 2017, I had the opportunity to sit down and speak with a lot of the current Chelsea squad players and they were all very, very excited about the prospect of coming out here and playing at such a wonderful venue,’ said Australia’s most-capped international player.
‘So we’re all very excited about it and there’s no doubt that Chelsea will bring their strongest possible side to this game, in a very important match in the lead-up to the 2018/19 Premier League season.’
While the match takes place just a week after the World Cup final, Schwarzer believes that there will be a strong squad fielded by the Blues at Optus Stadium as they build up towards the new season.
‘You look at the Chelsea squad, it doesn’t matter what team they bring out, it will be a very strong side as they’ve got world-class players in positions all over the park,’ said the 45-year-old, who was with the Blues from 2013 to 2015.
‘I have no doubt whatsoever that whatever squad they bring out, they will have a very good game against Perth Glory.
‘And it’s not only going to be just the one game because Chelsea will also be committing themselves for more days of training in Australia because it’s such an important part of the pre-season campaign as well.’
