Chelsea Under-19s will take on Real Madrid in the Spanish capital on Wednesday 14 March as our UEFA Youth League campaign reaches the quarter-final stage.
Joe Edwards’s side were drawn against Real after defeating Feyenoord 5-2 in the last-16, while the Spaniards won in Munich against Bayern. The tie will take place at the 6,000-capacity Alfredo di Stefano Stadium, with kick-off at 5pm UK time (6pm local time). It means the Blues face a Wednesday evening double-header in Spain as Antonio Conte’s side take on Barcelona later the same day in the Champions League.
Real Madrid finished as runners-up to Tottenham in the group stage before winning in the play-off round on penalties against Krasnodar, the Russian side, in front of a competition-record crowd in excess of 32,000. They were reduced to 10 men in the last round but came through to win 3-2.
It will be the first time our Under-19s, UEFA Youth League winners in 2015 and 2016, have faced an away knockout tie in the competition and the reward for the victors is a trip to Nyon for the semi-final and final weekend in April. The other quarter-finals are Tottenham v Porto, Barcelona v Atletico Madrid and Manchester City v Liverpool. If victorious, we will take on the winners of Tottenham v Porto in the semi-finals.
In other Academy fixture news, our PL2 game away at West Ham has been brought forward. Originally scheduled for the evening of Monday 12 March, it will now be played at 12.05pm on Sunday 11 March. The venue remains Victoria Road, home of Dagenham & Redbridge FC.
Next up for the Academy is our FA Youth Cup quarter-final tie away at Fulham next Tuesday 27 February. Kick-off at Craven Cottage is slated for 7.05pm and tickets can be purchased on the night priced at just £4 for adults and £1 for concessions.
