Select XI place for Lindahl

Chelsea Ladies star goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl has been named in the FIFPro Women’s World XI.

The selection, decided by a poll of members of the international players’ union, recognises a year in which Lindahl helped Chelsea Ladies challenge at the top of the domestic league and make record progress in the Women’s Champions League, and Sweden to the quarter-finals of the Euros in the summer. The 34-year-old also became her nation’s most capped goalkeeper, male or female.

It is her first appearance on this FIFPro team and she said:

‘One of my big goals is to be the world’s best keeper. It’s been my dream, and to be a part of the FIFPro World XI, at least once, is something tangible to show to my kids. For me it means the world, actually. I’m thinking about all the years on this journey, the ups and downs, and all the people involved. People who looked at me when I was young and I told them about my dream, and they’re like, “yeah, okay, good luck with that”.’

‘Now, there’s something to show. There are so many great goalkeepers out there, it’s humbling to think that my peers voted for me.’

Although they did not make the final World XI, Millie Bright and Karen Carney were other Chelsea players among the 55 originally nominated.
