Women’s internationals: Kirby and Bright in England draw
news Sun 4 Mar 2018
England Women will win the four-team SheBelieves Cup if they beat host nation the United States in their final game.
As for the Lionesses’ opening-match win over France, Chelsea Ladies pair Fran Kirby and Millie Bright started against Germany, but Anita Asante has returned home for assessment of a knee injury that forced her off against the French.
England went behind against the Germans but equalised only a minute later when Birmingham’s Ellen White diverted Fara Williams shot in after Kirby’s initial volley had been blocked.
Germany took the lead again early in the second half when goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain’s clearance was kicked at Bright and bounced back into net, but White was able to level again with just over quarter-of-an-hour to go, so it is England who top the table on goal difference ahead of Thursday’s decider.
