Erin Cuthbert capped a remarkable 2016 by signing for Chelsea from the Scottish champions Glasgow City in the December.
A former Rangers academy player, the then 18-year-old became the top scorer at her former club less than a few months after joining them, collecting 19 goals as well as their Player of the Year award and a Scottish Women’s Premier League winners’ medal.
Though young, Cuthbert possesses game intelligence and decision-making beyond her years, two facets of her game which were on display during the 2017 Spring Series. She assisted Drew Spence’s goal just moments after coming on against Doncaster for her debut and her first WSL start against Yeovil was marked by a clinical finish.
Although she started only three matches, along with four sub appearances during the Spring campaign, Cuthbert rarely failed to impress and her best performance came in a thumping win at Sunderland with two first-half goals.
She made her senior international debut in Scotland’s 1-0 win over Belarus in Women’s Euro 2017 qualification and though her country were beaten 6-0 by England in their opening game of the tournament, which took place on her 19th birthday, Cuthbert netted their first goal in the Netherlands in the following match against Portugal.
