Two of women's football's biggest sides go head-to-head on Sunday as we take on the Gunners at Stamford Bridge. After our opening day draw against Aston Villa, we have gone on to record a 5-0 victory away at Manchester United and a 2-0 home win against Birmingham City last weekend.

Meanwhile, Arsenal won 1-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion on the opening day, but have struggled in their last two league fixtures. A 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace was followed up with a 1-1 stalemate against Man United, as a 95th-minute goal from Smilla Holmberg rescued a point.

The form

This Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge is matchday four in this season’s WSL and is between the sides third and sixth in the table. Chelsea have two points more than Arsenal and trail leaders Manchester City by two points.

Chelsea (11 games) and Arsenal (20 games) are on the two longest unbeaten runs in the WSL currently. Since the start of Chelsea’s run on matchday 15 last term (7 February onwards), the Blues average the most points per game in the top flight (2.64), ahead of the Gunners (2.50).

Chelsea are unbeaten in each of our past 45 WSL matches when leading at any stage (W38 D7), the longest run in the competition’s history. Arsenal, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 42 when ahead (W38 D4), one off their own record run of 43 set between August 2016 and September 2019.

Recent head-to-head

This will be the 10th meeting between Chelsea and Arsenal in all competitions since the 2023/24 season, with both teams picking up four wins apiece in that time (with one draw).

Arsenal were 2-0 victors in the league at Stamford Bridge against us last season, but not since the first three WSL campaigns (between 2011 and 2013) have they won consecutive WSL away matches versus the Blues.

The WSL match at the Emirates last campaign ended 1-1, with Alyssa Thompson putting the Blues ahead early on followed by a late Alessia Russo equaliser. Last season, Chelsea also played Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, exiting 3-2 on aggregate. Lauren James scored in a 3-1 first-leg defeat away and Sjoeke Nusken netted the only goal late on at Stamford Bridge.
