The competition is hotting up in our poll to find the best Chelsea free-kick ever scored as today we reveal the quarter-final pairings and ask you to vote for your favourite.

There were over 80,000 votes cast on the Chelsea Official App in our Round of 16 poll, and now the selection has been narrowed to just eight free-kicks.

Two of the last-16 pairings were decided by just a couple of per cent, while the biggest outright winner was Cole Palmer, who won 93 per cent of the vote in his showdown with Deco.

Both Gianfranco Zola and Alex were victorious twice, and they are joined in the last eight by Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard. It promises to be an evenly-contested quarter-final docket!

Quarter-finals

1. Didier Drogba vs Alex

Didier Drogba vs Portsmouth - 2010 FA Cup final

Scoring the winner in an FA Cup final is pretty special and to do it with an eye-catching free-kick even more so, Drogba’s curling effort kissing the inside of the post on its way in at Wembley.

Alex vs Liverpool - 2009 Champions League quarter-final

Alex tested the strength of the net at the Matthew Harding End of Stamford Bridge when he powered in a stunning free-kick against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals.

2. Gianfranco Zola vs Enzo Fernandez

Gianfranco Zola vs Everton - 1996/97 Premier League

Zola’s first Chelsea goal was a special one, swerving and dipping into the net and befuddling Everton’s backline in the process.

Enzo Fernandez vs Aston Villa - 2023/24 FA Cup

This postage-stamp effort from Enzo was even sweeter because it beat his international team-mate Emiliano Martinez.

3. Gianfranco Zola vs Frank Lampard

Gianfranco Zola vs Tottenham - 2002/03 Premier League

Zola’s last free-kick goal for us was probably the one he scored from furthest out, whipped into the top corner to preserve our long unbeaten run against Tottenham.

Frank Lampard vs Tottenham - 2012 FA Cup semi-final

Lampard’s swerving 30-yard effort was too hot for his former Chelsea team-mate Carlo Cudicini to handle, and made all the sweeter because it came against Tottenham in an FA Cup semi-final.

4. Alex vs Cole Palmer

Alex vs Arsenal - 2010/11 Premier League

A near carbon-copy of Alex’s Liverpool goal, although from a little further out, helped us get the better of Arsenal in this London derby.

Cole Palmer vs Brighton - 2024/25 Premier League

Palmer brought up his hat-trick against Brighton last season with a spectacular long-range free-kick that seemed to pick up pace as it entered the net.
