The Blues had opportunities to go ahead, Bettoni curling a free-kick narrowly wide before Jashayde Greenwood twice tested Mikki van Sas early in the second half.

Mohamed Keita opened the scoring for the hosts after the break, with substitute Caolan Boyd-Munce doubling their advantage late on.

Bettoni reduced the deficit with a powerful finish in added time, but Harry Hudson’s side were unable to find an equaliser in our second Southern Group C fixture.

Bettoni goes close

Our first sight of goal came after 25 minutes when Bettoni was brought down within shooting range. He took responsibility for the free-kick himself, curling a left-footed effort just wide.

Justin Osagie then threatened from a set-piece as the Blues continued to seek an opener. The defender met Lewi Richards’ corner but glanced his header wide of the left post seven minutes before the interval.

Neither side could break the deadlock before half-time, leaving the contest goalless at the break.

Greenwood threatened twice shortly after the restart, first driving in from the left to force a save.

Two minutes later, he had our clearest opportunity yet, this time shooting with his right foot when through one-on-one, but van Sas again denied him to keep the scores level.

Hudson made three changes just after the hour, introducing Calvin Diakite, Mathis Eboue and Kendry Paez for Richards, Greenwood and Isaac Badu.

Chairboys take the lead

However, Wycombe went ahead soon afterwards. Dan Casey headed down a corner and Keita swept a left-footed finish into the bottom-right corner for his first senior goal.

Sol Gordon responded with a long-range strike which van Sas palmed away low to his left. Gordon then headed wide from the centre of the box as Chelsea searched for an equaliser.

Instead, the hosts extended their lead. Following Aaron Morley’s lay-off, Boyd-Munce finished low into the bottom-left corner.

Paez subsequently tried his luck from distance, with van Sas gathering, before Heze Grimwade replaced Harrison McMahon.

Bettoni provided a late positive in the second minute of added time, volleying a left-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box. The Blues had no time to complete a comeback.

What it means

Chelsea sit third in Southern Group C with two points from two matches. Our remaining group fixture is away to Reading on Tuesday 13 October.

The Blues return to Premier League 2 action against Fulham Under-21s at Cobham Training Centre on Saturday 19 September. Kick-off is at 3pm.
