There was Chelsea representation on both sides of the pitch as France snatched a late winner away to Belgium in UEFA Nations League action on Monday night.

For the first time in his senior international career, Romeo Lavia was named in the Belgium starting line-up, anchoring the midfield in a double pivot alongside Youri Tielemans. Lavia put in an energetic performance and impressed with his defensive contributions, including a goal-line clearance.

For the visitors, Maxence Lacroix helped France to a second clean sheet away from home in the space of four days, with Les Bleus emerging triumphant courtesy of substitute Michael Olise’s 88th-minute winner. The only goal arrived shortly after Lavia was replaced, while Lacroix played the full game. Mike Penders was not involved due to injury.

France’s next game is at home to Italy on Friday night, the same evening Belgium host Turkey.

At youth level, Chelsea Academy attacker Heze Grimwade scored the winning goal for England Under-17s as they came from behind to beat Israel 2-1 in Germany.

The Young Lions equalised with 20 minutes remaining and almost immediately went ahead when substitute Grimwade finished clinically.

Josh Henry and Reggie Watson both started the game – the first in a four-nation tournament – with Henry completing the 90 minutes and Watson withdrawn after England went 2-1 ahead.

They next play Venezuela on Thursday.
