Not long after the dust had settled on our win over Manchester United on Saturday, a very special guest waited to greet the Chelsea players before they headed home.

Eden Hazard was stationed just outside the tunnel at Stamford Bridge having watched his former club triumph courtesy of goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.

Our brilliant former attacker was especially excited to meet Palmer, who now adorns the No.10 shirt with similar skill and verve as Hazard did, but also his compatriots Mike Penders and Romeo Lavia, both of whom had starred in the game.

Lavia has enjoyed his start to the campaign, which has included a return to the Belgium national team. He was thrilled to speak to Hazard, a bona fide Chelsea and Red Devils great who he hopes to emulate in time.

‘He’s a very important figure for me,’ said Lavia. ‘We speak quite a lot. It was good to see him out here, and I could see in his eyes he was happy for me and proud. It gives me that extra motivation.’

For Lavia, it has been a season of steady progress. He has been in the matchday squad for every Premier League fixture so far, and last week completed two 90-minute matches in the space of four days.

His displays in those games, against Liverpool and Man United, highlighted just what the 22-year-old is capable of. Now he is determined to maintain those levels of performance and his fitness.

‘As long as I feel good, I will do everything possible to help the team get results. I’m feeling good, so I am very happy with my performance.

‘I’m still young and there are a lot of areas I can improve. We try to tick them off during the week. It’s a process.

‘All I can say is the work we are doing with all the people at the club is going well so far. It’s just about keeping it going and hopefully we can continue this way.’
