Chelsea Under-21s head coach Mark Robinson says he and his squad are looking forward to the pressure and excitement of a European knock-out tie at Stamford Bridge when we take on PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League International Cup quarter-finals on Thursday evening.

Having secured our progress through the group stage and into the last eight of the Premier League International Cup, our reward is a mouthwatering opportunity to test ourselves against the competition’s holders on the big stage at Stamford Bridge.

The match will kick-off at 7pm on Thursday 15 February and tickets for what promises to be a fantastic European tie are on general sale here now. For supporters who are unable to attend at the Bridge in person, the game against PSV Eindhoven will also be streamed live on the Official Chelsea App.

The Chelsea Under-21s go into this clash in good form too, remaining undefeated in all competitions in 2024 and having recorded an impressive 2-0 win over second-placed West Ham United in the Premier League 2 last time out.

That means there are plenty of reasons for Under-21s head coach Mark Robinson and his players to be excited for the prospect of Thursday’s match.

‘We’re really looking forward to it,’ said Robinson. ‘We already were, whether it was at Stamford Bridge or not, because it’s the opportunity to get through into a semi-final and, again, against really tough opposition.

‘It’s good that the players have the opportunity to play this game at Stamford Bridge too, even though from my own experience, to a certain extent once the game gets going you are so focused you forget the surroundings a little bit.

‘But we’re hoping to get a good crowd to support the boys and being at the Bridge the build-up will be exciting as well. It will be nice to hopefully get a good turn-out for the lads and it creates that extra bit of excitement and pressure for them as well, in a good way.’

That rare opportunity to sample the excitement and pressure of competing in a European tie at Stamford Bridge will no doubt provide valuable experience to Robinson’s young squad as they continue their development.

However, the head coach believes the quality of opposition we face in Dutch side PSV could be just as good an opportunity for their development as the occasion, as the Blues prepare to face the side which lifted the Premier League International Cup in 2022/23.

‘You only have to look at their results and the goals that they’ve scored in the competition, not just this year but last year too, to see what a tough game it is going to be. They put seven goals past Arsenal last year and seven past Leeds again this year in their last group game.

‘Looking at their squad they’ve got a few older players involved, 21 and 23 year olds, so again it’s going to be a real challenge, but that’s exactly what you want. You want that challenge point for the team to see how we’re going to stand up to them.

‘So we realise it’s going to be a really tough game but it is one we’re really looking forward to and excited about.’

You can get in on that excitement by purchasing your ticket for Chelsea Under-21s' match against PSV Eindhoven at Stamford Bridge, or watch the game live on the Official Chelsea App.
