There was plenty of drama in the final round of the group stage, and now that all 16 knockout games are confirmed, we've rounded up the outcomes of all 12 groups...
Each of the 48 nations at this summer's World Cup has now played three matches, and 16 teams are now heading home. That leaves 32 sides competing in one-off knockout games in a bid to reach the World Cup final on 19 July.
There were tight calls, dramatic endings, jubilation and heartbreak for teams who gave their all for their respective countries and here, we've rounded all the action up in one place...
Group A
Home nation Mexico delivered a 3-0 victory over Czech Republic in their final group match to advance to the Round of 32 with a 100 per cent winning record. Topping the group means they will remain at home in Mexico City for their first knockout tie, taking on Ecuador on Wednesday 1 July.
Meanwhile, four points was enough for South Africa to advance, where they will face another host nation when they play Canada on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
Qualified: Mexico, South Africa
Eliminated: South Korea, Czech Republic
Group B
There was disappointment for Canada when a 2-1 defeat to Switzerland meant they finished second in the group and therefore would not retain home advantage in their first knockout round.
Instead, the Swiss topped the group and will play Algeria in Vancouver on Friday 3 July, while Bosnia's 3-1 win over Qatar in the final group stage match saw them grab one of the third-place qualifying slots. Edin Dzeko and co. will face hosts USA in Santa Clara on Thursday 2 July.
Qualified: Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia & Herzegovina
Eliminated: Qatar
Group C
Five-time World Cup winners Brazil have topped Group C on goal difference thanks to their 3-0 victory against Scotland in the final group stage game. Morocco may not have the same tournament pedigree as their group rivals, but they have also impressed, taking a point against Brazil and beating Scotland and Haiti to clinch second place.
Brazil will now face Japan in Houston at 6pm UK time on Monday 29 June, and Morocco will take on the Netherlands on Tuesday 30 June at 2am in Guadeloupe. One victory was not enough for Scotland to advance, and they exit along with Haiti, who failed to score a single point in their three outings.
Qualified: Brazil, Morocco
Eliminated: Scotland, Haiti
Group D
After two big wins in their opening two matches, USA had done enough to clinch first place in Group D, but there was some disappointment when they lost 3-2 in their third game to already eliminated Turkiye, failing to secure a 100 per cent winning record.
Still, they will face Bosnia in the next round, while Australia's 0-0 draw with Paraguay saw them through in second, and a Round of 32 tie against Egypt awaits them in Arlington on Friday 3 July.
That draw meant Paraguay also collected four points over their three games and sealed a third-place entry into the knockout rounds, where they will take on Germany in Foxborough on Monday 29 June. Turkiye head home with just three points on the board.
Qualified: USA, Australia, Paraguay
Eliminated: Turkiye
Group E
A shock 2-1 defeat to Moise Caicedo's Ecuador didn't stop Germany topping Group E after they had already secured two wins in their first two matches. Ivory Coast made history with their 2-0 win over Curacao as they clinched second-place and their first knockout stage match in World Cup history.
With Germany taking on Paraguay in the Round of 32, Ivory Coast will play Norway in Arlington on Tuesday 30 June. Ecuador's mammoth effort against Germany will see them face hosts Mexico in Mexico City with a place in the final 16 at stake. It was a brave effort from Curacao in their first World Cup, and they leave with their heads held high and a precious point on the board.
Qualified: Germany, Ivory Coast, Ecuador
Eliminated: Curacao
Group F
Jorrel Hato and the Netherlands went through with seven points thanks to their 3-1 win over Tunisia in the final match in Group F, with Japan taking second place courtesy of their five-point tally. Graham Potter's Sweden sneaked through in third place with four points, as Tunisia propped up the group, having lost all three of their matches.
The Dutch now face a tricky Round of 32 tie against Morocco on Tuesday 30 June in Guadeloupe, while Japan play Brazil. Sweden will take on the finalists from the last World Cup when they face Malo Gusto and France on Tuesday 30 June at 10pm in New Jersey.
Qualified: Netherlands, Japan, Sweden
Eliminated: Tunisia
Group G
Mike Penders and Belgium topped Group G with a 5-1 win over bottom side New Zealand, while Egypt went through in second place on goal difference. That set up a Round of 32 fixture against Senegal in Seattle on Wedesday 1 July for Roberto Martinez and his side, while Egypt will play Australia.
Iran were desperately unlucky not to advance after they drew all three of their group matches, as a 96th-minute equaliser from Austria saw them eliminated from the tournament on goal difference following the conclusion of their 1-1 draw with Egypt. New Zealand earned just one point and will now head home.
Qualified: Belgium, Egypt
Eliminated: Iran, New Zealand
Group H
A 1-0 win over Uruguay was enough to see Spain through to the Round of 32, where they will face Austria in Los Angeles on Thursday 2 July at 8pm. Their South American opponents, under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa, were eliminated from the competition along with Saudi Arabia.
Cape Verde's 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia saw them secure a historic second place with three total points. The tournament debutants were rewarded with a mouthwatering clash against tournament holders Argentina in Miami on Friday 3 July.
Qualified: Spain, Cape Verde
Eliminated: Uruguay, Saudi Arabia
Group I
France and Malo Gusto have won all of their first three matches, sealing first position in Group I with a 4-1 win over a rotated Norway side. The Norwegians knew they were already through and took up second spot, while Senegal – including Nicolas Jackson and Mamadou Sarr – grabbed a place in the knockouts as a third-place team following their 5-0 win over Iraq.
With France up against Sweden, Norway will play Ivory Coast and Senegal will take on Belgium.
Qualified: France, Norway, Senegal
Eliminated: Iraq
Group J
Argentina and Enzo Fernadez joined Mexico and France as one of only three teams to win all three group stage games when they delivered a 3-1 victory over Jordan. Having played every minute of the first two games, Fernandez was rested in this latest win, but is expected to return to the line-up when his side take on Cape Verde in the Round of 32.
A late Austria equaliser in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Algeria meant that both teams made it to the Round of 32; Austria in second and Algeria in third. Next up for the Europeans is a tough clash against Spain, while Algeria will play Switzerland. Jordan exit with three defeats from their three matches at the tournament.
Qualified: Argentina, Austria, Algeria
Eliminated: Jordan
Group K
Colombia impressed throughout the group stage and finished on top of Group K with seven points after their 0-0 draw against second-placed Portugal in the final match. Pedro Neto and his side will take on veteran Croatia in Toronto at 12am on Friday July 3, and Colombia play Ghana in Kansas City on Saturday 4 July at 2.30am.
A 3-1 win over Uzbekistan in the final match saw DR Congo advance in a third-place slot to a knockout stage match against England in Atlanta at 5pm on Wednesday July 1. Fabio Cannavaro's Uzbekistan were eliminated without a single point.
Qualified: Colombia, Portugal, DR Congo
Eliminated: Uzbekistan
Group L
England, along with Reece James and Trevor Chalobah in the squad, secured first position in their group after a 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday.
That sets up a tie with DR Congo for the Three Lions, while Croatia also made it through to the knockout rounds in second place with six points. Ghana's four-point haul was enough to clinch a place in the Round of 32 in third position.
Qualified: England, Croatia, Ghana
Eliminated: Panama
